DESCRIPTION

The Berkel cutting machine model L was designed between 1907 and 1916 and is without doubt the most frequently built machine. It is also the first to be exported from the Netherlands. The model was first distributed in Italy by the Milanese retailer Bach & Co and then also in South America, where - in the same years - Berkel Argentina was born. Similar in many respects to the Berkel C and D models (the first were built in 1898), it has a movement driven by a flower-shaped flywheel, the carriage rests on four wheels and is guided by a plate that sinks down into the casing; the upper clamp is held between two rack-and-pinion gears and is also moved forward by the worm-screw system, controlled by a numbered rod. The blade, 350 mm in diameter, is mounted on the round shoulder to which the metal tray and plate are attached. The plate varies according to the country of purchase. At the top of the shoulder we find the knife sharpener, consisting of several chromed parts, all visible and without sheath.
