1898 – The genius intuition
The history of the Berkel brand began in 1898 when Dutchman Wilhelmus Van Berkel invented a revolutionary slicing machine that could mechanically reproduce "the perfect slice". His genius insight led to the creation of the world's first slicing machine and the birth of an icon.

1898 – Birth of a myth
On October 12, 1898, Van Berkel established his first factory in Rotterdam. A year later, Van Berkel's Patent Company Ltd had produced 84 cutting machines. The success spread worldwide.

1924 – Berkel in Italy
The story of Berkel in Italy begins in 1924 in Milan. In a few years the company grew enormously and rose again after the war as a strong brand during the 'miracolo economico'.

2000 – Van Berkel today
Van Berkel International is now a multinational that sells machines in more than 100 countries under the BERKEL and OMAS brands.

Aug 2014 – The Acquisition
Rovagnati SpA takes over Van Berkel International and acquires Brevetti Van Berkel SpA.

Oct 2014 – The Restart
Restart of industrial operations in Varese (Italy) and Chennai (India).

Jan 2015 – Consumer's World
Start of sales to consumers worldwide.

Jun 2015 – Indian Company
100% acquisition of BIPL and opening of a new manufacturing facility in India.

Sep 2015 – Knives Factory
Acquisition of Del Ben Knives factory in Maniago, Italy.

Jun 2016 – USA Hub
Opening of Berkel USA in Doral, Florida.

May 2017 – Italian Factory
Acquisition of OMAS Spa and Fonderia Leghe Leggere in Italy.

Jan 2018 – German Hub
100% acquisition of Berkel Germany.
